Just Set It to Easy: The Casual LP Thread

Aaaaand here’s the last episode. The dates only get worse.

Back from the dead, let’s look at a video game!

Let’s Check Out Children of Zodiarcs (Beta)

Children of Zodiarcs is a game I Kickstarted that blends standard SRPG mechanics with traditional tabletop elements like cards and dice to make an interesting and unique strategy game. I got access to the beta last week and thought I’d show off some story and mission stuff, since I really like the game and would like for others to see how cool it is.

Check it out on Steam here! The game is supposed to be out this year on PC, Mac, and PS4, so keep an eye out!

I appreciate all of these videos, Chorps. Hidden My Game By Mom is a treasure.

Children of Zodiarcs looks extremely good, I can’t wait for it to come out now. That is extremely my jam.

Ah shucks, thanks! I’d love to start doing more demo-style videos like Children of Zodiarcs just to bring attention to games I like without putting in all the effort of a full LP, and I’ve got a few in the works right now, actually.

And I’d love to see more people do this sort of thing, like prahanormal did with Hot Date, or even just see more stuff in the thread in general, just because I’d love to see more of games that I’m on the fence about or maybe haven’t heard of get some attention.

While he doesn’t post here yet, though he might put up a thread when Killer7 starts in a few weeks, supergreatfriend’s Demo Friend series sounds similar to this sort of thing. He just demoed Cosmic Star Heroine. There is also a series of short free game videos he’s putting out there while on break, preparing for Killer7.

“Hmmm, so many possibilities and so many options, I wonder what I have in my games list that has a nice, casual, easy-going feel to-”

“-oh hell yes”

Oniken is a really good sidescrolling platformer originally released for PC in 2012, which got an ‘ultimate’ edition in 2014 that included a few bug fixes and updates.

Made as a love letter to classic NES platformers like Ninja Gaiden, Shatterhand and Contra, Oniken does a really good job emulating the feel and vibe of some of my favorite games, and I always felt it was criminally underlooked, so I’ve wanted to do a short LP of it for ages now.

You play as Kenshiro, Jonathan Joestar, Gutts, John Connor, Guy Kazama Zaku in his quest to slice a LOT of things in half

This will be a subtitled LP, updated whenever I get some free time in between projects
(In addition, I included a ‘behind the scenes’ stream for Part 2’s entire editing process in case anyone had any interest in how to edit their own videos and do little tricks)

Definitely gonna be keeping track of this thread, because this is a real cool idea actually.

Let’s Check Out Saber Riders and the Star Sheriffs - The Game (Demo)

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs - The Game is a throwback arcade-style game based on a forgotten 80’s anime series, in the vein of something like Sunset Riders. The team behind this had originally worked on a different game based on this series that got cancelled, but thanks to Kickstarter they were given a second chance. They released a demo recently that’s just a half a level, but I still wanted to take the time to talk about the project, because I find the whole thing endearing and in line with my interests.

The game is supposed to be out Q3 2017 for Steam, 3DS, Dreamcast, and PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16.

Yo this is a promise to do a casual LP of Tangledeep when it comes out. I’ll edit this post into a casual LP of Tangledeep when it comes out. If you want to know about Tangledeep click here (I hope that works)

For those that want to know what this LP will consist of: I put an item in the game and I’m going to intentionally farm the item and then intentionally activate its special ability near the end of the game and that will be the LP. :iiam:

Let’s Check Out Ghosts of Miami (Demo)

Today, Visual Novel Book Club member and VN scholar DeviousVacuum joins me for commentary over a potentially exciting upcoming release.
Ghosts of Miami is a stylish mystery/romance visual novel about being a small-time private investigator in 1980’s Miami. I really love the aesthetics, and the idea of balancing actual investigation work and relationship development sounds like an interesting way to add depth to the game. This demo only covers the first day of gameplay, but there are already a number of neat ideas in here, so I’m excited for the full release later this year.

I am disappointed this is not linking a crayon Shin Chan casual let’s play. We had that anime dubbed over here in Europe in the 90s. It and Detective Conan I have seen dubbed in 4 languages.

It’s a monday, and that means time for slashing, explosions, punching, polar bears (maybe even punching exploding polar bears), It’s time for an Oniken Update

“Making Of” you say? That’s right, I streamed the entire nearly 3 hour long process of taking the raw footage and turning it into Part 2. I did this primarily so that people interested in editing their own videos (if this is your first attempt into doing so) can get a peak into what actually goes into editing an episode. I also try to make it as informative and entertaining as possible. If that’s the kinda thing that might interest you, check it out!

Let’s Check Out Mighty No. 9

There are a lot of retro revival games out there, harkening back to the classics of gaming with modern sensibilities. Today, I was reminded that I owned this one and had never thought to boot it up. Join Jay, FutureFriend, and myself as we rediscover the classics and talk about throwback gaming, as well as our own nostalgia!

Let’s Check Out Beglitched

Today I wanted to show off one of my favorite games from last year that I don’t feel got a lot of attention! Beglitched is a neat battle puzzle game that combines elements of Bejeweled and Minesweeper to create a unique gameplay experience with a high learning curve but a lot of nuance and charm. There’s a lot to learn but I hope through this video I’m able to show off the game well.

##IT’S FIGHTING FRIDAY :muscle::punch:
so that means it’s time for an Oniken update…DOUBLE UPDATE:siren:FINAL UPDATE :siren:

So yeah, part 3 is the actual end of the main game, with a penultimate stage that, in terms of difficulty, rivals any of the games it takes influence from. I also finally take a look at what that ‘Berserk’ button does

Part 4 is more a look at some unlockables and an extra mission they added with a patch. Some of those challenge modes are damn near impossible. I might stream attempts later on (and if I succeed I’ll add the highlights here) but for the most part this LP is done. Thanks for watching~

KNIGHTS is a minimalist puzzle game, which follows the idea of “easy to learn, difficult to master”, with the gameplay based entirely around the titular chess piece, the knight :horse:.

I bought this game on Steam some time ago, since it looked like something interesting that I could use to pass the time, and it’s pretty cheap anyway (it costs 1$,which is too low in my opinion). What I ended up with was much better than I expected, as I went from solving a couple levels every day as I did other things, to completely focusing on a single puzzle for long periods of time because I just couldn’t get. It. Right. And so I´ve always wanted to show it off, because I think it really is a delightful game and anyone that is into puzzles can get a lot out of it.

[details=Summary]The game is meant to be a relaxing and calming experience, with simple gameplay and music to fit the mood (in the form of Kevin MacLeod “Garden Music”).

The game has almost a hundred levels, separated in these 5 level packs, which get progressively more difficult, starting from casual easy, and eventually becoming surprisingly challenging. It also features procedurally generated levels, which are unlocked after completing a certain amount of the normal levels, with new ones being created every day.

In each level you are presented with a grid like this one (in this case, the very first level), where your goal is to bring each colored knight to a space of their corresponding color (the game has a color blind option, which I´ll show in case anyone needs it). You accomplish this by moving the piece from square to square; using its L shaped movement.

And that is really all there is to it! New colors are later introduced, which leads to really complicated boards, but I feel like it was still a relaxing way to pass the time, as even when I was stuck on a level, I didn´t feel frustrated, or like it was just too much to handle (for the most part anyway).

If you are interested, there is a web browser demo, which even includes some levels from the last level pack, so you can give it a try yourself!
