Contrarian's Catharsis: The Bad Video Game Opinion Thread

From what I’ve seen, general consensus has shifted to 4, yeah. I’ve also seen a large number of people say 3’s the best.

The stupid pawn chatter in Dragon’s Dogma was the best, and I actively set my pawn to talk as much as possible.

The only two good Final Fantasy games are Tactics and Mystic Quest.

This thread is the best, now then know what video game I disliked? Marrowind, I love oblivion and Skyrim, so when everyone and their grandmother told me that Marrowwind was Hot shit I had to try it. But what I found was a lackluster game that would kill me off for simply trying to explore a new area. I hated the narrative I hated the characters and man do I hate that game.

To be quite honest, my main consoles are a 3DS, a Vita, and a WiiU, and I feel almost no need to get any of the current gen home consoles. The only AAA game I’ve played in the past two years is Metal Gear Solid V. And I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.

SOMEONE didn’t hang out with the hardcore RTS clique in high school!

You’re alright.

Opinions that have gotten me in a little trouble before:

  • Fallout 3 was dreadful.

  • Mass Effect 2 and 3 had their endings switched around, which was part but not all of why the series ended with such a wet fart.

Opinions that haven’t yet got me in trouble:

  • Everything BioShock is dreadful, and Infinite’s DLC was the final nail in the coffin. Everything it did right, it stole from another game, and its political commentary was somehow at once heavy-handed and wishy-washy.

  • Morrowind’s features that people hold up as definitive of it being the True RPG Experience - no fast travel or quest markers - ruined it. I spent hours lost on that vast, confusing island, bunnyhopping over terrain and being attacked by wild animals and generally being unimmersed, bored and miserable. I played the hell out of that game, but every mechanical aspect of it that could be broken, was broken.

I like Parasite Eve 2 way more than PE1 (I haven’t played the 3rd Birthday).

I like Dino Crisis 2 way more than DC1 (I never played 3). I don’t care about your dang ole key cards and cryptic codes, I just want to run around shooting raptors in the face.

I think I liked Command and Conquer: Generals more than any other in the series. Questionable politics and over-serious tone aside.

Those opinions belong in this thread. I’ve never even heard people say that those were the things that made Morrowind great! What insane things to focus on.

Hoo boy. Let’s see.

I’d say I don’t like Dark Souls, but I just hate the gameplay and community surrounding it more than anything. The lore and design are neat, but give me a damn baby mode so I can enjoy it.

Basically every Bethesda developed game in the past 10 years suffers from being far too ambitious and falling short where it actually matters. (Saying as someone who has realized this after spending several hundred hours playing them)

I like Banjo-Tooie more than Banjo-Kazooie, which is apparently a controversial opinion (It simplified everything from the first game and added so much more, C’MON)

I actually really want Paper Mario: Paint Splash to be ported to the Switch because it looks fun and I never got a Wii U.

Oh, and can we make mascot platformers a big deal again? I’d rather have those for 10 years instead of more bog-standard FPS games.

I don’t like the Xbox 360 controller. Just feels wrong to me for some reason. The triggers feel spongy, the sticks are fiddly, and the handling of it makes my hands hurt after a while.

Then again I’m probably the only person in the universe who liked the N64 controller, so what do I know.

I totally did! Sort of. Every day during recess we’d go to the computer lab and have Heretic death-matches, which eventually evolved into Starcraft tournaments or, when you lost to the two Korean kids, futzing around with Nesticle’s color settings to make Mega Man’s armor pink or something (man I’m old).

Man With Gun is the most boring action game enemy.

edit: The main reason Richard Burns Rally got popular and is still getting new fans isn’t because of its amazing attention to detail in its simulation, it’s the fact that it has a proper tutorial that feels good to go through.

The main reason the Gran Turismo series got a fanbase in the first place is because even though it’s absolutely, completely terrible, it does have a tutorial.

MGR: Revengeance is the best Metal Gear game.[/quote]

I agree with this sentiment.

Same.

I enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine a lot.

Why has this gotten you in trouble? It’s true. I also hate Liberty Prime. Made you as a player character feel useless and it was a big circlejerk for the robot.

I mean that was Bethesda’s design method for awhile. Oblivion had the same issue, in that you were the grand errand boy to the real hero. It’s almost as if Bethesda’s really shit at writing.

I think the difference is that I actually kinda gave a shit about Martin since you spent pretty much the whole game with him. Liberty Prime just shows up right at the end to steal the spotlight. And also I know that the joke is that it was programmed by assholes and that’s why it says asshole things but man, a lot of the quotes from that robot make me uncomfortable.

Is liking Banjo-Tooie over Banjo-Kazooie a controversial videogame opinion? I mean I agree, but I think Banjo-Kazooie is a shitty game while Banjo-Tooie is really good. Just used to people saying these two game are the best of N64 or whatever, not unlike the two Zelda games on it, when really it was just Banjo-Tooie that was good in my opinion.
