Oh hey. Custom Robo is back.
I’ll admit I’m torn between just getting on with it or apologizing again. So much Life Stuff has gotten in the way of this game, and to be honest the tournament part of this game is a genuine mistake. It’s not the funnest thing in the world, and the dialogue is few and far between (though still mostly is as good as the main game). So it’s giving me these mixed feelings of “aaah this is my fault” and “game kinda falls apart at this point so its not on me at all really”.
But really it’s not that bad. Just need to manage my time better. Ultimately, the show must, and will, go on.

In this episode, we face off against Oboro and his goons (plus Sergei) in his specialized tournament. Single use battles, and tehy get to use illegal parts… and we also start unlocking parts again! Wicked! They’re all illegal though so not really usable in a tournament sense since we’ll lose our score pretty fantastically… of course I don’t care about that, so we’ll see if I use them!

With a sad degradation of our honoured name, we proceed into the amusement park for the last three tournaments. Before us, the Bronze Handicap match… wherein we must fight a 1v2. We are the one. I am taking off the kids gloves for these, because otherwise this WOULD ACTUALLY be too obnoxious to play.

I understand why they decided to add the tournaments. But wow are they just a drag to get through. Full on cutscenes between each one might have been better. The little talks with the enemies is fine, but it just feels gross and lifeless most of the time. The gross part of course being the brainwashing.

Slight apologies for the opening of this video. I was genuinely under the impression that this was a 1v3 because I’ve never actually played this before. I was either expecting it to be a straight 1v3, or a free for all where everyone is definitely focused on Making You Lose, over anything else. Both of these turned out to be wrong!
I still have no qualms about using the parts I did though. This is utter chaos and noise, I’m sure it’d be rather frustrating to play through if I didn’t use the best parts I had at my disposal.
The good news, Warmal, is that I actually think this and the last one is the least… lifeless, of all the tournament things. Also potentially the least gross?

Zodi Plays: Custom Robo [47] [FINALE] Aint No Scrub

In this, the final episode of Custom Robo… we get one last challenge. Eight fights with the seven strongest people in the game, each with a super powered up robo thanks to the horrifying implication ridden background-radiation of Rahu. We get, to some degree at least, closure for good ole Gyro, and we even end on a fairly okay joke. We also get one of the funniest lines I’ve ever read in a video game, proving that even here at the end, Crobo delivers on the thing it is best at.
Custom Robo is a game that has definitely overstayed its welcome. The massive tournament arc is… rough, in a lot of ways, and it doesn’t help that plague times and depression slammed into me pretty hard during recording. It was just hard to get through it. But it was worth it in the end, I feel. The story mode certainly was, even if the eventual plot decision of “we will trust the police who basically run the government with the mind wipe and rewrite device” is… a horrifying undertone that pervades the entire post game tournament arc.
So yeah. Thank you all for watching. There will be a bonus video uploaded today that will be me and Em playing through multiplayer just to like, show that off. They wanted to do so and I figured I could have some fun with it. Hope you all enjoy. And with that said and done, I bid you all adieu… until Monday, where we’ll be beginning Kirby Super Star!

Wow. I’m not sure what caused more burns there. The flamethrower or Em’s trash talking.
The Can fight was really good. That was awesome to watch. I’m glad they put in a joke robo like that.
The final tournament was really good. The conversations in it were a lot of fun. But yeah, the overall arc was just a slog. It maybe would have been better if it ended up getting put into the main story somehow. Maybe make it feel like the plot takes place over a little bit of longer time and you really develop yourself to being the best in the… city?.. world?.. Whatever they’re going for in this.
