NEW SEGMENT: NPC SPOTLIGHT

Every one in awhile I’ll be posting in this thread about an NPC in the game that is important to our characters backstories. Today I’ll be posting about Danuin’s primary backstory character because nobody else has told me about their backstory characters yet.
Please remember that Vladorz can lie and I cannot ensure the authenticity of any of their background characters.

Selynth the Archivist:

Selynth is an Arakkoa of the Airglow tribe, a tribe known for its academics and intellectuals. A brilliant mage and skilled mediator Selynth works for the Skychief Lagan as a minor magistrate. Her position of influence has afforded her an opulent abode that she despises. She takes on lower caste Arakkoa as “servants” to afford them some status in society. She is generally regarded well by the Arakkoa.

Danuin and Selynth grew up together and were childhood friends which grew into a one-sided crush on Danuin’s side. Selynth is notable for finding a way to tint glass steel metallic hues. When she married, Danuin was one of the people who Selynth deigned to give her away (as in Arakkoa society it is not a role assured to ones parents but to individuals who are precious to those getting wed.) Which was a moment of both pain and pride for Danuin.

Selynth married a member of the Aurene tribe, the tribe behind the glassmaking and known for its artisans, named Osk and, despite the abusive nature of her marriage to him, Selynth did want her children. (Danuin made the choice to destroy her eggs without consulting her and that hurt Selynth greatly.) It would be a lie to pretend that Danuin’s romantic feelings (her crush now a full blown infatuation) for Selynth did not play in to her decision. Seeing this problematic dismissal of her agency from her beloved friend the nature of Selynth’s relationship with Danuin changed. Though to what extent, Danuin does not know as she was almost immediately banished.

Selynth still cares for Danuin and desires to know if she is alive and safe, but their old bonds of friendship may never recover from Danuin’s brash actions. The truth is it is the fact that she so deeply wronged Selynth that Danuin is trying to atone for, and why she continues to enforce the Arakkoa’s judgment on herself.

Selynth is straight, and a romantic relationship between the pair could never have happened. But Danuin’s affections are not something she can easily control.

It’s another Thursday update but please don’t get used to it this is not the norm. Regardless, here’s this weeks session.

Session 4: Lasers and Feelings

Summary

We travel to the dragon town of Scalehollow, befriend the mayor, break into an ancient dragon ruin, avoid lasers, defeat Holly, earthquake the town and kill a bunch of people, and also the halfling crew and dragon forewoman got dumped into Skybalm.

Bonus Audio: This is almost nine minutes of us trying to fix our sound issues. I think we sorted it this time!

BONUS BONUS:
Me being Holly for last session’s Tea encounter, as promised. Never say I’m not willing to embarrass myself on the internet.

I lost control of this session almost immediately because I did not plan at all. Enjoy!

Vladorz's Observations - Session 4

Apparently, I have not been given any sort of trust by the rest of the group. Despite going through such difficulties to bring back our crew (which they wouldn’t understand, considering the quantum mechanics at play), they had the nerve to still be upset at me! I brought them back safe, whole, and alive! It was Danuin’s fault they came back somewhere else, but they point fingers at Vladorz! Honestly, I’m not sure they are as observant as they could be.
Danuin’s behavior is beginning to trouble me somewhat, but it seems like now is not the time to confront her about it. Certainly not after the disaster at Scalehollow. Well, I only say ‘disaster’ as that is what everyone else is calling it. I thought it went rather well: we managed to embarrass the small one named after a tree again, and I got to keep her hat! Shame about the earthquake, but was it really necessary to delay our departure to help out? If we had a schedule, I would remind the medium giant about it, but I don’t have one yet.
I suppose I’ll have to learn how time is kept in this reality first, if I am to make a schedule to point to when we need to keep to it.

Its beginning to seem like one of the doomsday plans the overlord set in motion was the party working against him.

A question i have to ask is, Holly’s hat the same in higher dimensions?

A good question, but no. Can this hat exist in higher dimensions? No, but the essence of the hat can. The conceptual elements that make up the hat can be worn in 7 different ways in the 5th dimension, for example.

Vladorz, of course, is a trendsetter, and is trying to get the 8th way going. It is unlikely anyone will appreciate his efforts, but he does it for the sake of high art.

This is a real rough one. I worry for Danuin if things don’t start turning around soon. The mood whiplash from finally succeeding at defeating the Overlord only to destroy yet another community because of her foolishness, more deaths staining her hands, more guilt for her conscience, has left Danuin with only doubts and heartache, no answers.

:tw: for self harm. (Sorry)

Danuin's Journal

:musical_score: “Pain and failure, if you can rise above it, are some of life’s greatest teachers.”

I thought we finally turned it around. But I should have known. I can never create, only destroy. How many times have we come to a place only to leave death and ruin in our wake. We are no better than Tea. Communities will have every right to fear us as they do him and it’s all my fault.

I thought I was someone different, a savior. But I am not. I showed you who I was when I shattered your eggs, Selynth. Now these dragons, the ones that survived, have seen me too.

I can’t, I can’t even look at myself. I did this. Their deaths are my fault. There is… nothing. No justice for this. Only more guilt.

How many more will pay for my failures?

You want to know what happened to my wings, Vladorz? I cut them.
I cut my wings, but I feel nothing. I keep cutting, I see the blood, I feel nothing.
Not better. Not worse. Not punished.

How can I keep going knowing all the harm I’ve done and will continue to do…

I keep cutting.

In this session, we learn that derailing is a lot more fun in MonsterHearts than it is in Fellowship! Whoops!

Tesiver's Journal Session 4

I am of mixed feelings.

I should start with the good things. I managed to best the witch! I was mainly a distraction, but I was still instrumental in defeating her at the mines! Today, I was less important, but that’s fine.

Unfortunately, we’ve failed to save even more people. I did not mourn for the dragon capital, but this is different. We promised them that we wouldn’t endanger them, and several of them died because of us.

. . . Somedays, I feel like I’m not cut out to be a giant. Everyone else has a community they’ve adopted, like Wendy and her archeaologists. But I only ever had Tyrram. A giant is supposed to be a protector; no problem is too great to solve, or too small to address. But I’ve left a trail of destruction in my wake.

Maybe I’m being too hard on myself though. I’m sure everyone had issues when they first adopted communities. I’m just late to the game is all.

I’ll start with my group here. From here on in, they’re my protectorate. Yes, even Vladorz. Surely I can take care of three people. If anything happens to them, it-

The writing stops suddenly. There are inkblots that skew in one direction, as if Tesiver dropped the pen and book while running.

I can just hear the alarm klaxons in the drill going off, at the end there.

Guess who made Al Bhed-esque chicken Dragon scratch for a journal entry? This idiot.

Minerva's Notes - Session 4

Anyway, this was a good session, other than all that stuff we destroyed and the people we killed along the way.

Get ready for a double post folks!

I’m updating on Thursday AGAIN, but I swear this is just a fluke. Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts. Today is pretty much entirely the AFTER DARK episode because we’re just listening to music and drawing a map.

Session 5: Mapping and Napping

Summary

We draw a map.

NPC SPOTLIGHT:

Today it’s time for one of Minerva’s background characters!

Katla of Seven Fires

The former Queen of the Dragon Kingdom and mother of Minerva. As a full dragon, she didn’t meet much resistance from her peers, and was able to improve her kingdom’s relationships with other countries and races.
Although she had never personally left the Dragon Kingdom, Katla was the daughter of a merchant. She would frequently acquire books from other races, and quickly grew an interest in other cultures as well. When she grew up and inherited her father’s business, she grew it to new heights, (heights that may have even given new life to the country’s economy, had anyone else other than her adopted her policies.) Her business was so impressive, it caught the attention of Ghidorah Swordmelter who, with no children of his own, named Katla as his successor. She bequeathed her company to Damien Drake, and moved to the palace with her husband Nodwick Evenstar.

Unusually, Katla was assassinated. Perhaps she attracted ire from other dragons due to her diplomatic approach with other races, though both the killer and motive were unknown. Although Minerva was to be her successor, she was only four years old at the time, and Smaug the Bronze Warrior was chosen to rule until Minerva was of age, (and the less said about Smaug the better.)

I told you the Thursday updates were a fluke. Anyway, it’s Friday and that means I update our LPs.

Today we’re building up tension by playing a one-shot game of Law’s Out and letting the cliffhanger hang more. What antics can we get up to?

Whatever happened tonight, I don’t regret any of it (provided I still remember when I wake up in the morning).

NPC SPOTLIGHT:

Today it’s time for one of Tesiver’s background characters!

Tyrram

When Tesiver and Tyrram were young, Tyrram was far and away the more level-headed of the two. While Tesiver prepared for each threat by training himself, Tyrram would look at every factor he could possibly control. It should not come as a surprise, then, that Tyrram was a strategist during the war.

The two fell in love during the war against the Great Evil. Unfortunately, there is no moment they could point to as “The Moment They Fell In Love.” It had happened gradually, and by the time both of them had realized it, they had already been in love for quite some time.

Their time together after the war was happy, but too short for either of them. Tyrram was a few years older, so he passed while Tesiver lived.

DOUBLE POST, so I told @heyboots about Mucinex and almost killed him. He was recovering from illness this Wednesday so we decided to be Millennials looking for apartments. @breadmaster was very drunk.
