Big Boss is about to go nuclear in METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN (and Ground Zeroes)

It’s nice to find old friends.

I gotta be real I played most of this game and completed all these wandering soldier missions completely baffled as to why they were all attacking me and jerking around with the Skulls zombie animations, and it never at any point hit me until after I’d finished them all that “Oh right they’ve just been wandering Afghanistan living rough for ten years and have gone completely nuts.

Holy crap, I’ve played through that part of the game three or four times now and never knew there were all those POWs in Back up, Back down. I knew about the jeep guy and that’s it. I feel like maybe they could have added in a line saying “But hey the Soviets are also dealing with a lot of their POWs right now so keep an eye out for them” or something like that.

It rubbed me the wrong way that such important specialists are only in a mission with no checkpoints

Yeah I had no idea all those random POWs were even there, unsurprisingly! I think I did get that POW in the jeep though; the one the game actually tells you about.

I can only assume you can find out about the other POWs by interrogating soldiers, or something? Otherwise how are you supposed to know that they’re even there, let alone where they are?

I also never twigged to the whole “proving you are Big Boss” thing with the wandering Mother Base soldiers. …I just tranqed them. Sorry I’m so boring! I just didn’t know.

I suppose it’s theoretically possible – but extremely unlikely – to find them that way or just by chance. Most people probably see that there’s six from the optional mission objective Chip mentions. You can view all the objections for a mission after your first successful completion, at which point none will be hidden anymore.

So… does Revolver Ocelot ever use a revolver in this game?

To be fair he’s just Ocelot right now, but yes he does.

Yeah, for a while I definitely thought the ex-MSF soldier had somehow become a Skull, but he’s…just weird.

He already has revolvers on him. Beyond that, he won’t show off as much as he did in MGS3 until MGS1.

So, someone in the Youtube comments mentioned that the Wandering MSF Soldiers resemble Shell Shocked WWI veterans. I decided to check out a video and it matches really, really well. It’s not an easy watch, but I think it’s worth sharing.

:tw::tw::tw::tw::tw:
If you do not want to see a man struggle with Shell Shock, then do not watch this video.

The dog is adorable also looks like its licking the camera.

So for the next few updates, we’ll be doing two-parters. The first video will continue The Phantom Pain, while the second video will be covering the rest of the content contained in Ground Zeroes.

So, putting aside T H E R E V E A L that dropped this episode, I’ve got another actual game question if you don’t mind? There ARE female soldiers in the game…do they ever actually show up? I don’t recall ever actually seeing…any of them, on the base or in the field, other than as POWs.

…also FUCK I really want Bloody Ripper Chico to be in this game now. Just a random wandering boss enemy that is hostile to enemy forces as well, can show up anywhere. That’d be rad. Doesn’t even have to be Chico make it literally anyone. But if it was Chico, it’d be like he became a cryptid himself, which…would be fairly interesting?

But yeah, thoughts on T H E R E V E A L: I didn’t actually know Paz was a villain when I first saw and heard about what happened to her! It completely passed me by. So I thought it was really cool…except for the fact that it’s also FUCKING TERRIBLE??? Like seriously, why would you do this? Even on top of the fucking disgusting Ground Zeroes bit with the two bombs, why drag Paz into this again? I doubt the side quest will conclude in ANY sort of reasonable fashion, especially given what faint things I know about the REST of this game.

I don’t think you ever encounter women soldiers on the battlefield, you always recruit them either via heroism or by rescuing them as a POW.

I do think the lack of references to Chico is because of the cut content - if you scrap an important plot point due to say, a lack of time, you’re not going to have the time to patch up that gap.

Although, there’s definitely another possibility I’m sure Chip will touch on at some point.
