What's the story behind your username?

I always assumed you were just ordering your horse around, someone mistook it for your name, and it stuck.

I never thought your username’s origin would be so grounded in reality.

In like 2009 or 2010 I was at my dad’s work while he helped oversee a software deployment over the weekend. I had my laptop and a fresh download of Coda and nothing else to do, and he had a web domain, so he offered to let me make a site for myself as a sub-domain, and I needed a name for it, so I just sat thinking for awhile until that wound up in my head. At least I’m pretty sure that’s how it went. I really liked the idea of visible riches, trapped in ice and unreachable. It also rolls off the tongue and shortens in multiple ways nicely.

I had to come up with a name to use on Twitch, and I pretty much just went with my initals + ā€˜games’. Of course, I didn’t realize it could easily be mistaken for Warner Brothers Games… oops. I still like the name anyway. It’s better than my SA name, and a lot better than what I got in a random name change thread.

Anyway, I used that Twitch account to do one stream like 4 years ago and then never again, it wasn’t interesting and no one watched it. I might try to stream again sometime now that I’m on here and not… afraid of the LP subforum.

I’m real bad at video games.

kinda boring now that I think about it.

I remember someone using the phrase ā€œtough beansā€ as a way of saying something along the lines of ā€œsucks for youā€. So, thetoughestbean was meant to mean ā€œthe suckiest situation.ā€ It’s perhaps not the best username.

I needed a name for Xbox Live and Deathmaster sounded cool and 780 was just a number I stuck at the end of it

It’s because I am the 780th Master of Death in existence.

ā€œi’m going to make my username (x) Draconis on gamefaqs because i use that everywhereā€

ā€œoops i forgot my password, fuck it, i’ll make a new account and replace the c with a kā€

fast-forward 13 years to the creation of my lp.zone account and the thrilling conclusion of ā€œeveryone has just called me ā€˜Drako’ for over a decade so lets keep it simpleā€

Sorry, I’m not trying to get you down but you’ll never be as good as Deathmaster666. That one was just nuts.

Yeah he’s a fun dude to hang out with but Deathmaster420, now she really knows how to have fun.

Well of course a Deathmaster made of nuts would be a more powerful one. A lot of people are allergic to nuts.

The stories here are all p cool!

My first ever OC was named Moon Called, the name of which I stole from a random minor NPC in Adventure Quest. I then forgot the password to my neopets account, so I remade with the username Moon_Called. I stuck with that username for about a decade maybe? and eventually people started affectionately calling me Moony.

Moony was a hard UN to get though, so I changed from Moon_Called to MrMoon when I realized I was trans, then MxrMoon when I realized i was nonbinary, but everyone kept calling me M X R Moon which made me feel like a weird extreme sport??? So I changed to Sylveon420 for a bit, b/c Sylveon is my favourite pokemon and 420 is a funny number, but then when I decided to consolodate my usernames I took MoonyVG b/c it was free just about everywhere. And MoonyVG at Twitch TV has a nice ring to it!

There is a line in the original Max Payne from one of the Mob Bosses about how he had these ā€œTwo Mad Dog Killersā€ who had decided to ā€œSettle their differences with a Kung-Fu Action Video Gameā€ and it’s always stuck with me.

I stole mine from the Odyssey when I read it in college. Odysseus went by a lot of names and I was (and am) into cyberpunk, which is all about snappy handles that are also obscure references, so I thought it’d be cool to take a nickname from a guy famous for multiple identities.
Also it rolls off the tongue pretty well, and apparently might have meant ā€œburningā€ which feeds into my love for super robots.

Mine’s pretty simple. As a child I had an interest in Digipen (an university for game development and other technology-based stuff) and I downloaded a fuckton of their student project games. One of them was a odd little CTF-style game called Toblo, which was basically ā€œCTF but with throwing physics blocks of the environmentā€. Pretty simple, but the name just stuck with me and I used it as my account name when I started doing net things that required accounts. It just kinda became my universal user name since its easy to remember and I thought it was cool/cute sounding.

Oh man I loved those great conceptual games from digipen. I think toblo was the same year as Narbacular Drop? I remember talking on a NBD forum with Jeep back in the day. The creators stopped posting when Valve picked them up :swoon:

It was originally ā€œD15GR4C3Dā€ because when I was 13, I thought 1337 and an edgy name like The Disgraced One would be cool as fuck. Obviously, it was just obnoxious. Nevertheless, for the sake of consistency I rocked it for years anyway before I was made fun of for it on another forum. I then checked if simply ā€œDisgracedā€ was available there, and lo and behold it was. I asked a mod if they’d be kind enough to change it, and here I am. Anywhere I can’t get clear-cut Disgraced I default to ā€œDisgraced Snake,ā€ in reference to good ole Metal Gear.

One weekend in college, I woke up too early after a night of too little sleep and in that semi-conscious state of pre-awakening I saw a face hovering above mine and it was so distinct that I had to immediately draw it on the nearby white board.

And I knew it was a Tomato Grandpa.
