Super Powers, the Final Frontier - Let's Play the Saints Row Quadrilogy

The Boss continues her rapid takeover of Steelport, even with Killbane trying to put the Saints down. But not everyone in the gang is so eager to throw themselves into work. Pierce and Zimos are planning a party, and a certain Shaundi may find that disrespectful towards the recently deceased. And when I say “may,” I mean she absolutely does.

We’ve got these new friends, right? Well, we should probably get to know them better. And considering Zimos was half the reason behind last week’s terrible party, we should start with him… because Shaundi might kill him before too long.

Now that we’ve spent time with Zimos, let’s go see how Kinzie’s doing. She’s our best bet for taking on the Deckers, considering computers aren’t exactly the Boss’s strong suit. On the bright side, even if she can’t code, she can work in VR space.

We’ve reached the last and least of our new friends here in Steelport. Angel has a deep grudge against Killbane, and he will not rest until the kingpin is retired. No, really, he won’t rest. He just stands there in his gym, punching things until the day his vengeance comes. And while that won’t be today, Angel can at least spare some time to ready the boss for a fight with the Luchadores.

Right, so we’re done with the feeling out process. Now that all three branches of the Syndicate are wounded, it’s back to kicking Morningstar. They’ve lost Phillipe Loren, and Killbane has halved the number of sisters that can run the organization as well. But they’re still operating, and we want their big BDSM club now. So, what better way to get in than to trust Zimos with the invitations?

… okay, there were probably several better options.

Things aren’t going well for Morningstar, but they could be worse. So clearly we’re not doing our job well enough! Thankfully, a certain someone in the organization isn’t too happy with the Syndicate and its seemingly-pro-sister-murder stance, and is more than willing to give the Saints a tip if it bites Killebane in the end.

Out of technicality, Morningstar isn’t out of the picture. But we’ve dismantled enough of their operations that they may as well be, so it’s time for a little vacation! And what better way to spend one’s time than to participate in the local game show about murdering tons of mascots?

Following last week’s distraction, the Boss has been invited to participate in Genkibowl VII! Genkibowl is fun for the whole family and any participants who don’t bite it during the game! Which, admittedly, is not that many of them! But the Boss is built differently, so chances are she’ll be fine.

Viola wants to make a deal with the Saints, and while nobody is that enthused, it doesn’t seem like she’s planning on backstabbing us. Still, the Syndicate isn’t our only unaddressed problem; Monica Hughes, still fuming about that bridge named after her stupid husband exploding, has ordered a military operation in Steelport. And as you might imagine, they’re not big on gangs, especially highly-organized ones.

STAG has been hitting everyone hard, be they Saints or Syndicate. But Killbane has a plan to take the heat off his organization: lie on live TV. Yes, with a quick bit of post-production work, he has the footage he needs to blame everything he did on the Saints, and at the point, hopefully everyone will blame them and do his work for him. Thankfully, we’ve got a nerd on our side, and she knows how to track broadcasts.

Militaries need propaganda, and for some reason STAG has chosen the star of a terrible vampire show to be their mouthpiece. And unfortunately we’re already acquainted with that mouthpiece, because he’s 75% of the reason that bank heist went badly. Josh Birk is back, and we need to kidnap him to make STAG less appealing. I don’t know how the math works out there, but at least we get to punch a dick in the head today.

After the botched assassination of Killbane, it’s clear the Saints need to aim for the Deckers before the rest of the Syndicate can go down. Kinzie’s on that case, but unfortunately Matt Miller’s on hers as well.

We’ve got our fancy chair, now we can counter-hack the hackers. Fighting on the Deckers’ home turf may not be easy, but as long as Kinzie can get us up to fighting speed, this isn’t that different than a normal fight, and nobody can beat the Boss in a normal fight. Not even loose flagstone.

We’ve taken out the nerds, but unfortunately we’re not getting R&R after this one. A different nerd has decided to play god and bring Johnny Gat back from the dead. Or at least, he made a clone of Gat, and even that didn’t work out well. A very large Gat-like brute is now rampaging through the streets, and it’s up to the Boss and Pierce to put a stop to it. The aforementioned nerd is also there, but we care about him less.

Alas, Shaundi has been kidnapped again. If we want a swift rescue operation, we’re gonna need to do something drastic: disguise ourselves as Cyrus Temple himself.

STAG has gotten serious, and their lockdown of Steelport makes our lives more difficult. We’re gonna need a big hit against them, and hopefully said hit doesn’t cause anything terrible to happen. Like, oh say, the release of an experimental chemical that causes people to turn into zombies. That would be horrible.

STAG isn’t done per se, but we’ve done enough to them for now. Because seriously, we gotta focus on the Syndicate. They may be weaker than they were before, but Killbane being their leader means they’re not helpless. Everyone but the Boss thinks the best course of action is taking him on in the ring. And, well, it turns out even the Boss can be outvoted.

The Boss’s position in Murderbrawl is confirmed, but before we can go we need to prepare a surprise tag partner. Angel is ready to reclaim what was taken from him so long ago, and once he gets it back, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the ring. Probably.

We’ve ticked off Killbane and Cyrus, and now everything’s boiled over in the worst way possible. The Luchadores and STAG are burning everything in their path in some mad power play. And while the Saints would certainly deny that they had anything to do with the lead up to this massacre, it’s still their job to put a stop to it.

You’ve seen how Gangstas in Space (almost) ends, but have you ever wondered about the film’s early days? Well, we’re flashing back a bit to a bit of a different film. As it turns out, the director’s a dick if you don’t have the Boss’s clout, and even if you are The Boss, that doesn’t make this an easier working environment!

This is gonna make it hard to get an accurate census.

The Saints’ victory in Steelport didn’t last long before Cyrus Temple went off the deep end and started aiding terrorists. And in an attempt to put down their enemy for good, the gang catapults into a new landscape: politics. Yes, once a star on the silver screen, the Boss has now become the President of the United States. And other than some lackluster policies and critically low poll numbers, everything’s going great! The only thing that could put a damper on this presidency would be an alien invasion!

… ah hell.

Welcome to Saints Row IV! Other than a slight spinoff that’s more or less a standalone DLC for this game, we’ve reached the end of the line for the quadrilogy. So after three games of buildup, how are we ending things off? Why, with both a celebration of the past games and an excuse to do some off-the-wall mechanics that wouldn’t really have flown in the previous games. All the world’s a simulation, so the player gets super powers and an array of strange but fun weapons to play with. It’s my understanding that some people think this game got way too goofy, but personally? I’ve been waiting for this one.

Welcome back to the watchthrough of your favorite inexplicable sitcom and mine, Leave it to the Saints! Weird that Youtube has allowed this to exist for so long, normally you’d have to hide live TV show commentaries on some forgotten video hosting site like Dailymotion! Ah well. Anyway, what is this episode even about? Actually… what are any of the episodes about?

Zinyak has thrown the Boss into a simulated Steelport, and once again the city is hostile. Because of aliens this time. But with Kinzie’s help, it may be possible to turn things around. As it turns out, there’s a lot you can do with loose bits of code. And that includes giving the Boss power she’s only obtained for like ten minutes after drinking weird soda.
