Something something Duwang - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Discussion

Joseph is always fantastic, but after Part 4 I think I’d say Josuke is my favorite. My perfect crime boy has never done anything wrong.
I have a hard time choosing a favorite Stand just because most of them are pretty cool in some capacity. But Emperor always struck me for some reason, despite being fairly simple. Though realistically, Pearl Jam would be the best Stand to have, really. Giving your good-ass food the ability to cure your ailments? That’d rule.

Looks like there is going to be a special JOJO event on the 19th.

http://jojo-animation.com/special/eventgoods.html

I’m sad because I’ll be missing that since I’m visiting Japan in March instead and I doubt anything else will be happening then besides Golden Blood. It’s like a little fan expo where you can buy tons of doujinshi and other fan-made content and I’m hopine i can make that at least.

I’m also hoping I can finish this collection here during my visit as well. Chara heroes are kinda ugly but they grew on me and you can find them for cheap in Japan vs like $50 for one of the D’arbys alone.

HANDSOME. Notice he’s standing on a manhole cover.

I’m getting close to owning all the figurines for the part 3 guys.

I found out about JoJos last year.
Started part 4 and then went back so I could understand who was Jotaro and Joseph.

My favorite Jojo is either Part 4 Jotaro or Jolyne.

Favorite STAND is KIRA KWIIN, cuz… Well…she has no weakness!

Wish I could have more merchandise, until then I’ll keep listening to Great Days.

The fact that Santana has never and possibly may never appear again is a shame. So much potential for the last Piller Man to have his own Stand.

Santana is to JoJo what Raditz was to Dragonball: A new, unexpected threat that’s considerably more powerful than what has come previous, changes a whole bunch about what we knew of the setting and requires a great deal of effort and hardship (including teaming up with an enemy) to take down, but after his defeat is never mentioned again, except for his comrades to be all like “Pfft, who cares? We’re much stronger anyway.”

I’ve been reading JoJo long enough that I had to suffer through both Duwang and the deceptively bad Part 5 translation. So since around 2005, or thereabouts.

So, questions:

  • Favorite Part: It’s a tie between 2 and 5.
  • Favorite JoJo: Young Joseph
  • Favorite Stand: Muthafuggin’ TUSK
  • The DiU movie: My expectations are so low that you would probably need Underworld to find them.

What a beautiful topic! chew

  • I knew about JoJo from it popping up in my Tumblr feed from time-to-time, but never took to watching it until one of my friends started watching it and would not stop singing its praises. And now I’m the same way, because this is my newfound obsession.
  • I’m still in the middle of reading Stone Ocean, but my favorite part has to be between Battle Tendency and Diamond Is Unbreakable. Joseph is a good portion of the reason of why I love Battle Tendency, but it also feels to be the most tightly paced out of all of the parts, at least from watching the anime. It doesn’t feel like it drags on too long (which is a problem a lot of the post-Stardust Crusaders parts have, I find), and there isn’t a dull moment to be had. On the other hand, I really like Diamond Is Unbreakable because it takes the time to have meaningful character interaction during the down time while setting up for the villain. With the exception of Yukako, I think I liked the group in DIU most out of all the parts.
  • Young Joseph will always be my favorite JoJo because of how much of a clown he is. While each of the JoJos are pretty good in their own way, Joseph’s attitude cannot be topped. The dialogue he has with Caesar is too priceless to forget.
  • Kira is my favorite villain as well. He contrasts with the rest of the villains (my knowledge only extends to the middle of Part 6) because of how calm and collected he is, as well as having no real motivations. He just wants to live a quiet life. So long as he can sate his hand fetish.
  • Purple Haze from Vento Aureo is probably my overall favorite Stand, and it pisses me off how underused it is. Seriously, it’s almost entirely forgotten about as soon as it’s introduced, and it would be SO useful to the rest of the gang in Part 5. Seriously.
  • I think I grew to the softer style of DIU the most, but there isn’t really a preferred art style for me.
  • If there isn’t a Duwang subs option, I will be greatly disappointed with the movie.
  • No merch at the moment, but I’m eyeing a couple DIO and Kira figures. Just need to scrounge up enough money for them.

  • I first heard of Jojo because of the memes, but I don’t exactly count that so I’ll say that a friend of mine played the Capcom game online with me once and talked about how great the manga was, then I watched some of the OVA. This was before the series went mainstream and before the new anime happened, and I didn’t think too much of it until people around me suddenly just started talking Jojo a lot in 2012.
  • Part 2 is my favorite. I do like Part 3 since that’s how I found out, but out of what I’ve seen so far in terms of the anime I enjoy Part 2 the most.
  • Joseph’s my favorite Jojo, although I do like Jotaro too. Also Speedwagon, DIO, Polnareff and Lisa Lisa. And all the Pillar Men.
  • Hard pick, but I’d probably just go with Star Platinum.
  • I like his style from Part 3, mostly because of panels like this:

  • The old Capcom game of course, also 7th Stand User is fun and Diavolo no Daibouken is a riot because you pick up Stand Discs and it plays a MIDI track associated with each stand. I haven’t gotten to play All-Star Battle or Eyes of Heaven but I wish I could. I’m also very curious about the Part 5 PS2 game, which almost had a US release if it wasn’t for all the copyright issues.
  • I haven’t seen/read DiU so I dunno. The actors look pretty spot on, but live action anime tend to be very hit or miss.
  • I have a figure of Jotaro that Matt Mercer signed the base of.

Right now I’ve been watching the Part 1-2 anime as it airs on Toonami (they just passed the part where Joseph killed ACDC and now has the brain thing on his back, and I’ve come to realize that Part 1 really isn’t all that hot, aside from a few good moments. It might have been a cool thing back in the day but I just felt like I wanted to get through it to get to Battle Tendency and thankfully it lasts only 9 episodes. But oh man, when it hit Part 2 I was just :allears: the whole time. Joseph’s charisma is just perfect.

Also, the OP is fantastic and pretty much the whole soundtrack rules. I wish the off vocal versions of some of the tracks like “Overdrive” were on the OST because while I don’t mind the vocals the instrumental parts are so awesome and I’d love to hear more of that.

So, I powered through the rest of Stone Ocean over the weekend and…wow. It’s hard to believe that JoJo could get any weirder after the ending for Part 6.

On that note, is Steel Ball Run/JoJolion set in an entirely separate universe, or do we know if (PART 6 SPOILERS) it’s set in the same universe created by Made In Heaven accelerating time to the point of restarting the universe?I mean, nearly everything about the new Made In Heaven universe was different except for the appearances of the protagonists and Emporio somewhat remembering the past couple universes.

(Part 6 spoilers)

SBR and JJL are set in a completely unrelated universe that just happens to feature vague parallels to the one we’ve followed from 1-6. So basically parts 7 and 8 =/= the universe that part 6 ended on meaning that, as fun as that’d be to see her in Jojolion, Irene does not exist.

I thought as much, but wasn’t completely sure. Thanks!

I feel like part 8 is really underappreciated. It’s basically the world’s most fucked up family sitcom.

So I’ve been watching the dub for Battle Tendancy on Toonami and it’s actually pretty good.

But when I heard Kars’ voice for the first time, I could not stop laughing because he sounds very similar to BirdPerson from Rick & Morty which is absolutely perfect omg.

I am now picturing Jojolion set to Seinfeld’s soundtrack, and it’s fantastic.

My friends and I have a house rule about Jojo: only character deaths are spoilers, anything else goes! Why? Because everything else sounds fake or a fever dream  The fun part is seeing how you get there and how it happens, anyway!

Favorite part: Part 4, with part 2 and 7 close behind.
Favorite Jojo: Joseph, but both Josukes are also really good.
Favorite stand: very hard to decide, but I love Cheap Trick and any stand that relies on weird conditions and gimmicks to become almost invincible despite being useless in battle
DiU live action movie: cautiously optimistic, the fact that Jotaro has his iconic hair hat is a good sign though

Joseph’s voice is so perfect in that. I love when he’s disgusted at Caesar’s flirting with the girl at the beginning and calls him “mozzarella cheeseball.”

How the dub handled this scene holds a special place in my heart.

I love it!

Realtalk: I can’t wait for the English Dub of Diamond is Unbreakable, because it’s probably just gonna be Richard Epcar doing his best Mr. Bean impression for EXTRA OLD Joseph.
