Let's First Encounter, Assault, and Recon in F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon

And let’s end the spoilers there, yeah? I know it’s an older game, but still, I did ask to keep spoilers tagged if posted at all.

Apologies I forgot about that. I have edited the I think spoiler bit with the tag.

Thanks, and no worries. It happens. The “Stuff I Missed” Video just keeps longer and longer with every episode I edit…

ATC Security: The Security force at Armacham. They’re not as fast, smart, or deadly as the Replica soldiers, but they at least provide a change of pace in who we’re shooting.

MOD-3 Rocket Launcher
Damage: *****
Range: ****
RoF: Semi-auto 3 round burst
The MOD-3 is basically the rocket launcher from Unreal Tournament, except it always fires three rockets at a time. It’s pretty powerful, but also not viable as a regular weapon since the ammo scarcity borders on famine for it. Still, it’s more than effective when you get the opportunity to use it.

I kinda felt a little bad for these schmucks. They aren’t exactly Vanek’s guys. I almost feel like the part with Bishop was only included to show they were evil, and yeah, it was okay to wipe out these rent-a-cops.

I’ve always wanted to know just how much these guards knew about the crazy projects their employer was up to.

I don’t know, I do know that their AI is different from the replicas’ AI, they focus less on their own cover, charge more often and run away in fear more often, a lot more amateurish than the replicas, which is appropriate.

There was an article awhile back talking about the behavior of the replica Ai, and how its set to react depending on how many replicas are nearby, as well as the importance of vocals in their behavior. I can try finding it again if you want.

I remember reading one, probably even the same one, where they talked about how adding the vocals was necessary as tells basically, in particular for grenades and flanking otherwise some players would just ragequit at the cheating AI that spawned enemies behind the player and teleported grenades because they didn’t pay enough attention at what was going on.

Here’s an RPS article about it. Might be the one you guys are talking about.

This article is actually linked on the game info page on Steam, as well, which is where I first found it.

Armcaham Defense Turret: Turrets pop down from the ceiling and fire machine gun bullets at you. They’re fairly accurate and do a decent amount of damage, but they’re also stationary, so it’s pretty easy to find a safe place to plink away at them from.

REV6 Powered Armor: A suit of powered armor worn by a Replica soldier. They take a lot of abuse before going down and pack a pretty strong punch. The rockets aren’t impossible to avoid, but it’s easy to get backed up against a wall, and the splash damage will do what the rockets don’t.

Type-7 Particle Weapon
Damage: *****
Range: *****
RoF: Semi-auto
I love this gun. I really do. It hits like a hammer and turns people into skeletons. It’s accurate enough (and has a good enough scope) to use as a sniper rifle, and it even makes a pretty cool sound. Honestly, the only thing that’s not great is it suffers from some ammo scarcity, but it’s hardly a famine. This probably gets my vote for best gun in the game.

I think you might have missed a laptop.

IIRC, for anyone playing along, there’s a way to maximize your fun gun ammo, if you throw away your previous gun before picking up the new one and then your old one again you’ll get a magazine’s worth of extra ammo.

Since we talked a little about the AI, since all soldiers have their own AI and their behavior is more emergent than coordinated (At least I think so.) to make soldiers scream orders, comments and suggestions at each other, their AI computers their situation and phones another AI to make it scream the order. Sometimes they just do it themselves though.

See, when I was putting together the video, I thought I had, too. I even wrote it into the original script. But when I checked the laptop entries, I had them all. Which either means I didn’t miss one or they add in an extra just in case. I wouldn’t be too surprised if they added in a redundant laptop, just in case.

I love the point in every first person shooter when, having acquired Pistol, Rifle, SMG, Shotgun, Scope, and Explosive, we finally come to the Weird And Wacky Fuck Yes This Owns gun.

It’s just … mwah. Bellisimo.

I am rather curious if the devs designed the arena with the power armor to be extra destructible. It certainly seems like it can be demolished more than normal.

I’m somewhat surprised they put spare ones given the way they placed so many boosters in ridiculous places.

Well, they did put in spare boosters as well and laptops help tell a part of the story so it’s not that surprising.

Name: Alice Wade
Affiliation: Armacham
Alice Wade is an Armacham employee and the daughter of Harlan Wade, who we’ve heard from but not seen. Well, not in person, anyway. She knows things, but hasn’t connected the dots, and is sort of obsessed with finding her father. At the very least, she’s not shitty to escort, following the “Ashley Graham School of Staying the Fuck Out of the Way”.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone): These little fuckers will fly around and pelt you with lasers until you blow em up. They don’t do a lot of damage, but they shoot quick and can be a huge annoyance. Using something with armor piercing puts them down pretty quick, at least.
