Finally caught up, just in time.
I really liked Suikoden when I was growing up, even though I only discover the series after it was pretty much over. Pity that such a creative series isn’t even worthy of a pachinko machine.

After a crushing defeat at the hands of Teo McDohl, the Liberation Army only has so much time to find a new strategy before the Empire marches again. However, the undefeatable Armored Cavalry reminds Flik of Odessa’s final gift: the Fire Spears. Mir and Tai Ho, along with a handful of other soldiers, must sail to the north and find the old Liberation Army’s Secret Factory, in hopes that it had avoided being razed alongside the other headquarters.
Georges
Refers to himself as a “free man.” He plays a chain-based match game and probably doesn’t pay his bills.
Recruitment: Win Georges match game at any difficulty level.
Lester
A chef working under Kun To in Kirov. His focus is making a good stew, perhaps one that is even very smooth.
Recruitment: With a level 3 castle, enter the houses south of the armory in Kirov and taste the stews in both of them. Then, speak with Lester in Kun To’s house.

Sarah is a maid working in Kirov. Oddly adept at combat, though a tad forgetful about her inventory.
Recruitment: Speak to Sarah in Kirov. Then speak to the NPCs around town, until you get a request for sugar. Buy that at the hardware store, trade it with the man at the inn. Then trade his yardstick with the woman at the souteast corner for salt. Give that to the man northwest of Sarah for soy, and trade that for soap with the other man nearby. Then speak with Sarah again. Congrats, you have a new character AND a useless bottle of soap.

Leon Silverburg, like Mathiu, was a strategist who served the Scarlet Moon Empire. Now, he just kinda… hangs around a burnt-down village, for some reason.

Recruitment: Obtain the Sound Crystal from Kalekka, then speak with her in Kirov.
Kun To
Kun To is a merchant, and more importantly, a smuggler who resides in Kirov. He’s quite friendly with his old acquaintance Tai Ho, and has no problem striking up deals with him.
Recruitment: Joins automatically after returning to Kirov from the secret factory and speaking with him.

Pretty much nothing has changed with Kage. He still doesn’t care about anything and continues to have no loyalty. Thankfully, he’s between jobs so the Liberation Army could hire him and prevent any more Burning Mirror incidents.

Beat Em’ Up Attack
Performed by: Pahn & Ronnie Bell
Effects: x3 damage to one enemy, Unbalances Pahn
It’s been about… half an hour since Mir first met his father on the battlefield. Now, on Teo’s third appearance, it’s time for the battle between father and son, which has been vaguely alluded to periodically throughout Mir’s journey.
Pahn’s gambit had proven successful; the Liberation Army had enough time to obtain the Fire Spears and bring them back to their headquarters. With the army fully outfitted, and a wealth of new members joining from the last remnants of Odessa’s army, they were prepared for Teo’s next assault.
Scarlet Moon Soldiers: 14,000

The Liberation Army turned their situation right around with the Fire Spears. The Empire, after their bizarre loss of soldiers in the previous battle, refreshed their numbers to 14,000 soldiers. Thanks to the remaining soldiers from the old Liberation Army, Mir’s forces were bolstered up to 12,585 men. By the end of the fight, Teo lost all of his soldiers, with 903 turning traitor near the end of the fight and the rest perishing in battle. The Liberation Army lost only 3,649 soldiers overall. After the Liberation Army’s victory, Teo challenged his own son to a duel. He lost, in part due to the injuries he sustained from his earlier duel with Pahn.

Oh right, poll time. Vote for three characters on both lists, and I’ll… somehow choose what the top three are that will join the group for the next arc. Voting ends this Wednesday at noon EST.

Whoops, this LP reminded me that the Suikoden series exists. Time to replay the first game and hopefully finish the second game this time.
You’re doing a good job on this LP! The goofy snarks are funny, and you’ve done a good job of backing off when the plot gets heavy. I appreciate that you discuss the emotional moments, but only after the scene is over. I also like how you’ve discussed every dungeon so far. It’s nice to hear an LPer talk about something like that in a little depth; most just say “it’s good!” or “it’s bad!”
And I was too late to vote in the poll, but the character I wanted to see got in anyways.
All I want to do
Is see a party that includes
A giant woman
The Empire is beginning to waver, and with insurrections springing up all around the shores of Lake Toran, the Liberation Army has chosen to strike Fort Lorimar. However, the fort’s defenses turn out to be even weaker than they had initially expected; upon arrival, there was not a soul there to raise a blade against them. Now, the Liberation Army must discover just what caused this disappearance, and why they graves at Lorimar were emptied.
Kirke
An executioner who worked at Lorimar. He’s fairly single-minded, and describes his job as merely “cutting off heads.” When Lorimar was attacked and soldiers both living and dead were taken, Kirke was the only man left in the fort. When the Liberation Army passed, he accepted their offer to join them.
Recruitment: After gaining access to Lorimar and passing it in a cutscene, Kirke will be present upon returning.

Hix
Although Hix was born and raised in the Warriors’ Village, he is a fairly cowardly youth. He wants to be a fighter, but without a solid grasp of what he wants to fight for, he refrains.
Tengaar
A hot-headed youth and the daughter of the Warriors’ Village chief. Despite women not being raised to fight in her village, she displays far more fighting spirit than her friend Hix.
Zorak
Chief of the Warriors’ Village. Although he’s a skilled fighter, Zorak is more known for his lengthy speeches. He’s a lore buff without peer.
Moose
One of the blacksmiths training under the legendary smith, Mace. He continued his work and study in the Warriors’ Village. Of the disciples of Mace, he is the most skilled.
Window
One of the residents of the Warriors’ Village. Unlike Hix, Window is far more confident in what he wants to do for a living, though it still isn’t fighting. True to his name, Window is a windowmaker, and he seeks the Window Rune to perfect his craft.
Neclord
Neclord is no ordinary vampire; because his transformation was the result of a rune, he has the power of a vampire without the weaknesses of one. The Empire put Neclord in a position of power, giving him the bodies he needed to create an army of the damned and terrorize the Lorimar region.
Marco
The gambler Marco kinda just… wandered off from Rockland, and arrived in the Warriors’ Village just in time to cross paths with Mir again. With the Liberation Army growing at a steady rate, Marco offered to join them for the low, low price of winning 5,000 bits from his rich ass.
Recruitment: When Marco arrives in Warriors’ Village, win 5,000 bits from him.
The vampire Neclord is seemingly invincible, and now he has a hostage. The Warriors’ Village has only so much time until Tengaar meets with a terrible fate, and they must now rely on the Liberation Army to find a weapon to defeat Neclord. Mir and his friends travel to Qlon Temple in search of such a weapon, but even if they find one, they don’t know just the kind of danger that could surround such an artifact.
Zen
A gardener who works at Qlon Temple. He has a major soft spot for flowers.
Recruitment: Speak with him with all three seeds (red, blue and yellow,) in your inventory.
Morgan
Morgan was born blind, but is nonetheless a strong fighter. He trains in Qlon temple, alongside the monk Fukien.
Recruitment: When Toran Castle is level 3, speak to Morgan in Qlon Temple.

Crowley
A strange old man living in the Qlon caverns. Somehow knows how big the Liberation Army’s castle is, and is, at the moment, unimpressed.
Star Dragon Sword
A talking sword with an edge against all things undead, (and living too, if that’s what you need.) He has a bit of a temper, and he’s very controlling, making him a strange partner for Viktor. None the less, both of them hate vampires, so an alliance only makes… sense? We’ll say sense.
Hugo
The librarian at Qlon Temple. He keeps everything in order, and is in charge of some important documents.
Recruitment: When the Liberation HQ is at least level 3, obtain the War Scroll from the Qlon Temple’s cavern, then speak to him.
Viktor
After clearing the caves of Qlon, Viktor obtains the Star Dragon Sword. With this new blade, Viktor is able to pierce Neclord’s invulnerability. In addition, Viktor’s weapon actually does change. It changes from the Taia Sword/Shika Sword/Koten Sword to the Star Dragon Sword, and its stats are now the following:
Star Dragon Sword (Levels 1-4)
Black Dragon Sword (Levels 5-11)
King Dragon Sword (Levels 12-16)
Damage Range: 9-185
This is an upgrade from Viktor’s previous weapon, and it makes him one of the strongest characters in the game in terms of sheer strength. Even better, you keep your weapon level from the previous one, so you don’t have to re-forge it.
Window
With the Window Rune in hand, Window joins the Liberation Army with the incredible powers of… changing the game window? His powers may mean little to the Liberation Army itself, but his ability to alter text boxes through the fourth wall is impressive nonetheless.
Recruitment: Speak to Window with the Window Rune from the caverns behind Qlon Temple.
Flash Attack
Performed by: Liukan, Fukien & Kai
Effects: x2 damage to one enemy; Liukan, Fukien & Kai are unbalanced.
There may be only one Ted in the Suikoverse, but there are at least three Sarahs. Only one of them is ever plot relevant though.
Viktor now wields the Star Dragon Sword, but the Liberation Army has been given a hard time limit to save Tengaar: when the sun sets, Neclord will drain Tengaar of her blood. The boys must race to the top of the castle and put a stop to Neclord for good.
Hix
Although he remains his usual bashful self, Hix is none the less able to summon some courage in order to rescue the woman he loves. With permission from Zorak, Hix enters Neclord’s Castle, afraid but willing to fight on.
Recruitment: Joins when you enter Neclord’s Castle.

Performed by: Hix & Tengaar

Neclord is dead and Viktor has temporarily departed. With another major power of the Scarlet Moon Empire taken care of, Mir has time to search for more people to recruit. But his search won’t be easy: for some reason or another, several strong individuals across the land are all currently hanging out in some of the most obnoxious to reach locations around the land. Can Mir stomach another two walks through Neclord’s Castle, and various other time-taking dungeons?

Finding themselves still outnumbered by the Empire’s remaining forces, the Liberation Army must find yet another ally. Humphrey suggests they visit an old friend of his, Joshua, commander of the Dragon Knights. However, despite Humphrey’s previous ties, they find themselves barred from entering the Dragon’s Den. If they want the help of the dragon riders, they must make an unlikely ally and discover just why Joshua has prevented entry into the normally-neutral territory.
Vincent de Boule
Supposedly an aristocrat. He’s boisterous and dresses loudly, but he seems to know Joshua of the Dragon Knights somehow. Or maybe he’s a liar. Whether he’s a cheapskate or actually poor is also an eternal mystery.
Milia
Mila is the Deputy Commander of the Dragon Knights. While the dragons remain asleep, she watches over and protects them. Her dragon, Thrash, was one of the few not put to sleep.
Recruitment: Once Liukan is brought to the Dragon’s Den, Milia will join before the Liberation Army sets off for Seek Valley.

Kasumi and Krin have recently uncovered an intelligence leak in the Liberation Army, meaning someone amongst their ranks is a spy. But with no way to tell who it could be, the Liberation Army must move forward quickly in an effort not to divulge critical information. For most, it would be a difficult task. However, the Liberation Army has Mathiu on their side, and he is nothing if not crafty.
The Liberation Army had scheduled a combat drill for the day. However, upon arriving at the site, Mathiu revealed that they were actually moving forward in an attempt to take the Northern Checkpoint. Currently they were led only by Commander Griffith, and their army had expected no resistance on that day.
Scarlet Moon Soldiers: 3,700
Griffith was wholly unprepared to face the liberation army. He had neither the strength of numbers or his superior Kasim Hazil, and thus little choice in strategy. In addition, he was only a commander and his skills were not on par with General Hazil.

The Liberation Army clearly had superior numbers, having 15,265 soldiers to the Empire’s 3,700. Although Griffith was only a Commander and did not have the power of one of the great generals, his command saved many lives, as he encouraged his soldiers not to waste their lives. All 3,700 of his men were defeated, but many of them survived the fight. Meanwhile, the Liberation Army only lost 3,006 soldiers. Griffith surrendered, and joined the Liberation Army at the promise that his mens’ lives would be spared. This victory at the Northern Checkpoint allowed Mathiu to launch his attack on Moravia.
Taggart
Taggart works for Warren. Yup, that’s it.
Recruitment: Joins before the battle at the Northern Checkpoint.
Griffith
A Commander of the Imperial Army. He joined the army merely for a source of income, but he cares deeply for the soldiers working under him.
Recruitment: Joins automatically after the Major Battle at the Northern Checkpoint. Your choice of dialogue does not matter; he will be recruited either way.

The war against the Scarlet Moon Empire nears its end. The Liberation Army has backed them into a corner, and Mir has gathered nearly all 108 Stars of Destiny. However, without Gremio, is there truly a purpose in gathering so many people together? Well even if there isn’t Mir’s gonna find them all anyway. It never hurts to have a few more soldiers around… even if some of them (Vincent) don’t even fight.
Maximillian
Captain of the Maximillian Knights. He acts both quickly and excitedly, throwing himself into danger to serve whoever he thinks is just. He wishes to die a warrior’s death in battle.
Recruitment: Immediately after the events of Moravia, enter the Northern Checkpoint from the north. Do not deny recruiting him, or you can never get him.
Sancho
Maximillian’s servant. He gets dragged around by his master a lot, but he nevertheless keeps a calm attitude, which may protect his master from more danger than either realizes.
Receruitment: Immediately after the events of Moravia, enter the Northern Checkpoint from the north. Like with Maximillian, if you reject him you do not get another chance to recruit him.
Vincent
Somehow, Vincent wound up arrested and thrown in prison alongside Warren and Viktor. And so few people pay him mind that the Liberation Army missed him on their initial jailbreak. Oddly enough, Vincent never once complained about being missed.
Recruitment: Return to the top floor of Moravia and speak with him.
Mace
At last, Mir is able to ask the rest of the Blacksmiths to accompany him to Seek Valley and recruit Mace. Now un-hermited, Mace is able to raise everyone’s weapon level to 16. Everybody’s, that is… but his own.
Recruitment: With the Castle at Level 4, speak with Mace with all four Blacksmiths in the party. [Note: Do this before facing Sonya. If you don’t, you will never have enough space in the party to recruit Mace.]

All that remains in the Empire is its capital. Two fortresses prevent the Liberation Army’s entry into the final territory: Kwaba, and Shasarazade. In an effort to be unpredictable, Mathiu decides to attack Shasarazade, the more difficult target. He promises an entire 500 boats to be prepared by morning, much to everyone’s surprise. The Liberation Army spends the night preparing for the next morning’s battle; one of the final battles of the Liberation War.
There were two points at which the Liberation Army could have attacked the wall preventing them from entering the Empire’s capital: Kwaba Fortress, and the Floating Fortress Shasarazade. The Empire expected the Liberation Army to attack Kwaba, as they wouldn’t have been able to prepare enough boats to attack Shasarazade at full-force. They had assumed wrong, however. Mathiu had Gen, Kamandol and Milia prepare 500 boats made of ice formed from a dragon’s ice breath. With this, they could overpower Sonya Shulen’s army and break through to the capital.
Scarlet Moon Soldiers: 17,000
Thanks to her floating fortress, Shasarazade, Sonya was already a force to be reckoned with. However, she also had both a personal charge and a personal magic attack. Despite being outnumbered by the Liberation Army, her strategies were still, in theory, dangerous to her opposition.

Thanks to another one of Mathiu’s plans, most of the Empire’s troops had been stationed in Kwanda, as nobody had expected the Liberation Army to create so many boats so quickly. As such, the Liberation Army had a significant enough force to face off against Sonya’s troops; they numbered 18,275 troops to her 17,000. Still though, the numbers were close, and Sonya’s strategy was effective even after her floating fortress was bypassed. The Liberation Army was able to prevent Sonya from doing extensive damage to their numbers, but nevertheless they lost 4,054 soldiers. Through their strength, the Liberation Army was able to defeat all of Sonya’s soldiers. This paved the way to the Liberation Army’s attack on Shasarazade. Although they seemed to have the upper hand, circumstances would prove to bite back on the Liberation Army as they put their plan into motion.
Sonya Shulen
The last of the Empire’s Five Great Generals, and the least interested in doing anything that’s not “cutting off Mir’s head.” She is technically a part of the Liberation Army, even if she isn’t enthused to actually be here.

Final Character Poll
Okay! So, now that we’ve recruited the final character, it’s time for one last character poll. I’ll explain more in the next video, but the gist is that the top three characters will face the final boss in a bonus video. Therefore, the poll will be running until the final video goes up, which will be either next Friday or Saturday. You’ve got plenty of time to vote, and as usual you can vote for up to three characters in each category.

Well gosh I missed this somehow. Guess I have some catching up to do!
The war nears its end. The Liberation Army must raise their moral in preparation of the next day’s battle. But with Mathiu’s health now dwindling, just what kind of miracle could put Mir in high spirits?
The Scarlet Moon Empire had one final trick up their sleeve: thanks to Windy’s magic, they were able to use monsters to bolster their numbers from 20,000 to 100,000. Without the intervention of Windy’s sister, Leknaat, and the bearer of the Dragon Rune, Joshua Levenheit, their efforts to overpower by numbers was thwarted.
Scarlet Moon Soldiers: 20,000
Yuber was not an actual Scarlet Moon general, but rather an associate of Windy. For what reason he commanded the Scarlet Moon Empire’s final battalions is unknown, but he attempted to overwhelm his opponents. His signature move was a charge, which although powerful, proved to be useless against the Liberation Army’s mages.

With 108 warriors gathered together, the Liberation Army was able to overcome the last 20,000 soldiers protecting Gregminster. Despite the vicious Yuber heading the Empire’s army, he lost all 20,000 soldiers in battle. It should also be noted that an Imperial Officier, Kanaan, was not present at the end of the fight. He was either killed, and his body was never found, or he merely fled the field, never to be seen again. Regardless, the Liberation Army started with a force of 18,710 soldiers, and ended with 3,753 casualties. It should also be noted that Gremio, who was thought to have died in Soniere Prison, was present for this final battle. After the fight, Yuber fled, leaving Ain Gide alone to protect the castle and Emperor Barbarossa.
Hanzo
It’s Hanzo! He’s the leader of the ninjas! And uh… he’s here.
Gregminster’s Army had been defeated. Emperor Barbarossa had lost soldier after loyal soldier to the Liberation Army. After storming the castle, Commander Mir met face to face with Barbarossa years after their first and only meeting before Mir’s defection.
Gregminster, Year 457: Commander Mir McDohl of the Liberation Army fought the wielder of the Sovereign Rune, Emperor Barbarossa Rugner, in one final battle for the Empire of Toran Lake.
I like how Barbarossa gets a lot of characterization despite only being in 3 or so scenes.
Barbarossa is one of the few villains that I think works being on screen less. Barbarossa himself contrasts so well with the empire you end up fighting for the entire game.
Bonus 1
I only ever have dumb ideas, don’t @ me.
Anyway, this is what happens when you bring a majority magic rune team. You know how this guy resists basically everything? Doesn’t matter. Pile on the explosion effects.
Bonus 2
Today, we show off all the unite attacks I missed, as well as show off a few other extra things.
Thank you so much to everyone for watching. @moderators, this thread can be placed under completed let’s plays, though I’d like to keep it open.
