Thanks to Mir, the castle has been staffed. On Mathiu’s suggestion, however, he must turn his sights towards Lepant. According to Mathiu, he is a man whose strength and loyalty are equal. But unfortunately, it seems things will not be as easy as waltzing up to his house and asking politely. Getting to speak with Lepant will be difficult, and the methods to ensure a meeting dubious at best.

Rock is a man who really appreciates vaults. His only worldly desire is to build large vaults, then guard them. For whatever reason, he was hanging out in Lepant’s manor, and joined the Liberation Army the moment their lack of vault presented a new opportunity. On one fine morning, Mir walks out to the pier to find an elf passed out at the Liberation Army’s doorstep. The elf, Kirkis, came to warn them of an imminent attack on the elves by the Empire’s general, Kwanda Rosman. With to speak of in terms of numbers, the Liberation Army cannot immediately attack Kwanda’s fortress. Instead, Mir sets out on a reconnaissance mission to find out just what Kwanda’s secret plan is.

An elf from the Village of the Elves. Unlike most of his brethren, he is compassionate towards other beings that aren’t elves, and wishes only for peace between all peoples. Upon learning of Kwanda Rosman’s plans to destroy the Great Forest, he rushed off to the Liberation HQ for help. Notably, he’s not a very good swimmer.

Viki

A strange woman who knows the ability to teleport. She has not mastered it, however, as her scatterbrained nature frequently leads her to teleporting suddenly and sometimes incorrectly. Still though, her abilities prove to be useful, as they can take Mir and his party to locations they’ve been to before, (provided she doesn’t mess up the spell, of course.)
Recruitment: She kinda just… blinks in out of nowhere in the middle of the Great Forest. She will teleport back to Toran Castle… hopefully.

Kuromimi

A vengeful widdle Kobold from the Great Forest. He’s the only Kobold who hasn’t been taken by the Empire, and he’s seeking a way to free his companions from Kwanda Rosman’s grasp. Not very fond of humans.

Valeria

Valeria grew up poor in a village in the Great Forest. But she trained diligently under the great fencer Roundier Haia, eventually becoming one of his best students. With her Star Sword and mastery of the Falcon Rune, she became the lieutenant of Kwanda Rosman. However, with Kwanda’s desire to destroy the Great Forest and its inhabitants, Valeria betrayed the Empire and tried to convince the elves to stop his plans. That, however, didn’t exactly work out well.
Recruitment: After escaping prison in the Village of the Elves, she will join the group automatically as you leave the town.

The battle at Pannu Yakuta Castle was the first major battle recorded from the Liberation War. After General Kwanda Rosman burned down the Village of the Elves, the Liberation Army was swift to launch a counter attack. Their ranks included the remnants of the elves in the region, the traitorous lieutenant Valeria, and a small group of soldiers from the previous army. Their leader was Mir McDohl, though at the time the population assumed they were the then-deceased Odessa Silverburg.

The Empire’s soldiers numbered at precisely 9,000 men, which outnumbered the 7,015 soldiers under the command of the Liberation Army. But due to General Rosman’s straightforward strategy, as well as the Liberation Army’s excellent intel on their strategies, the Scarlet Moon Empire was easily defeated and all 9,000 men were wiped out. The Liberation Army, on the other hand, lost only 1,530 soldiers overall.
The Liberation Army then stormed Pannu Yakuta, with Mir taking the lead alongside a handful of soldiers. On the roof of the castle, General Rosman dueled Mir. Mir was the victor, but Kwanda Rosman joined the Liberation Army after the fight.

But it would seem he’s not too happy to learn that Mir is in charge of the Liberation Army, and that Odessa was killed in his absence. But with Flik’s remaining men locked away by the Empire, there’s little he can hope to achieve without joining forces with Mir’s forces.

A record of the first battle of Scarleticia Castle

The Liberation Army’s campaign against Milich Oppenheimer started with two separate battles; the first took place at the fortress of Garan. Without an acting general, the Scarlet Moon Empire was defeated easily. The second battle, however, was a quick loss for the Liberation Army. Due to the poisonous flowers guarding Scarleticia Castle, the Liberation Army lost most of their active soldiers in a single attack. This pollen attack would lead the Liberaion Army to search for doctor Liukan.

The fortress of Garan was ill prepared for an attack by the Liberation Army. They were outnumbered and outmatched. All 6,000 of the Empire’s deployed soldiers were killed in battle, while the Liberation Army only saw 1,116 casualties.
Quickly able to refresh their soldiers, the Liberation Army decided to attack Scarleticia immediately. Despite the Liberation Army’s ambush, Milich had an impenetrable defense thanks to his Poisonous Pollen attack. The Liberation Army suffered a loss of 6,508 men, while the Imperial Army’s 12,000 men saw no casualties. With no clear way to pass, the Liberation Army was forced to retreat.

Hours pass after the Liberation Army’s encounter with Milich. When Mathiu comes to the rescue, their fears are confirmed. Mir must move on, especially with Liukan now willing to create the antidote needed to approach Scarleticia. The Liberation Army is calling for revenge, Mir must push past fresh wounds and take on Milich’s army.

A record of the second battle of Scarleticia Castle

Despite the Liberation Army’s painful loss in Soniere Prison, they continued on to Scarleticia Castle thanks to Liukan’s antidote. Although Milich Oppenheimer’s army was still powerful without its ace-in-the-hole poison, Mir McDohl’s army was successful in routing them. Afterwards, it took them little time to infiltrate the castle and burn the poisonous plants. After the battle, Milich Oppenheimer joined the army, as he too had come under the possession of a Black Rune.

Teo McDohl proved himself the superior in battle. His army numbered 14,000 soldiers, though the Liberation Army closed in on its numbers with 11,125 men. Curiously, the Liberation Army’s merchants were able to convince 3,354 of Teo’s soldiers to turn traitor, despite their general’s clear advantage. Other than the mutinous men, the Scarlet Moon Empire lost no soldiers whatsoever under Teo’s command. The Liberation Army, however, took a dire hit of 9,960 men before deciding to retreat. Teo and his soldiers pursued them, and with their superior mounted speed they would have caught the Liberation Army before they could reach their ships. Pahn, however, volunteered to stay behind and halt their progress. When he came up against Teo, they both agreed to a one on one duel. Pahn’s strength surprised Teo, prompting a retreat for the Scarlet Moon Army. Pahn’s impressive feat of strength both allowed him to keep his life and secure more time for the Liberation Army to prepare a counter attack.

After a crushing defeat at the hands of Teo McDohl, the Liberation Army only has so much time to find a new strategy before the Empire marches again. However, the undefeatable Armored Cavalry reminds Flik of Odessa’s final gift: the Fire Spears. Mir and Tai Ho, along with a handful of other soldiers, must sail to the north and find the old Liberation Army’s Secret Factory, in hopes that it had avoided being razed alongside the other headquarters.

Kun To is a merchant, and more importantly, a smuggler who resides in Kirov. He’s quite friendly with his old acquaintance Tai Ho, and has no problem striking up deals with him.

Another blacksmith training under Mace. He was a member of the Liberation Army before Odessa was killed. While he worked on the Fire Spears, he missed the destruction of the Liberation HQ and the death of Odessa, but he was spared from the attack.

It’s been about… half an hour since Mir first met his father on the battlefield. Now, on Teo’s third appearance, it’s time for the battle between father and son, which has been vaguely alluded to periodically throughout Mir’s journey.

Pahn’s gambit had proven successful; the Liberation Army had enough time to obtain the Fire Spears and bring them back to their headquarters. With the army fully outfitted, and a wealth of new members joining from the last remnants of Odessa’s army, they were prepared for Teo’s next assault.

The Liberation Army turned their situation right around with the Fire Spears. The Empire, after their bizarre loss of soldiers in the previous battle, refreshed their numbers to 14,000 soldiers. Thanks to the remaining soldiers from the old Liberation Army, Mir’s forces were bolstered up to 12,585 men. By the end of the fight, Teo lost all of his soldiers, with 903 turning traitor near the end of the fight and the rest perishing in battle. The Liberation Army lost only 3,649 soldiers overall. After the Liberation Army’s victory, Teo challenged his own son to a duel. He lost, in part due to the injuries he sustained from his earlier duel with Pahn.

Whoops, this LP reminded me that the Suikoden series exists. Time to replay the first game and hopefully finish the second game this time.

You’re doing a good job on this LP! The goofy snarks are funny, and you’ve done a good job of backing off when the plot gets heavy. I appreciate that you discuss the emotional moments, but only after the scene is over. I also like how you’ve discussed every dungeon so far. It’s nice to hear an LPer talk about something like that in a little depth; most just say “it’s good!” or “it’s bad!”

The Empire is beginning to waver, and with insurrections springing up all around the shores of Lake Toran, the Liberation Army has chosen to strike Fort Lorimar. However, the fort’s defenses turn out to be even weaker than they had initially expected; upon arrival, there was not a soul there to raise a blade against them. Now, the Liberation Army must discover just what caused this disappearance, and why they graves at Lorimar were emptied.

Kirke

An executioner who worked at Lorimar. He’s fairly single-minded, and describes his job as merely “cutting off heads.” When Lorimar was attacked and soldiers both living and dead were taken, Kirke was the only man left in the fort. When the Liberation Army passed, he accepted their offer to join them.

Hix

Although Hix was born and raised in the Warriors’ Village, he is a fairly cowardly youth. He wants to be a fighter, but without a solid grasp of what he wants to fight for, he refrains.

Tengaar

A hot-headed youth and the daughter of the Warriors’ Village chief. Despite women not being raised to fight in her village, she displays far more fighting spirit than her friend Hix.

Zorak

Chief of the Warriors’ Village. Although he’s a skilled fighter, Zorak is more known for his lengthy speeches. He’s a lore buff without peer.

Moose

One of the blacksmiths training under the legendary smith, Mace. He continued his work and study in the Warriors’ Village. Of the disciples of Mace, he is the most skilled.

Window

One of the residents of the Warriors’ Village. Unlike Hix, Window is far more confident in what he wants to do for a living, though it still isn’t fighting. True to his name, Window is a windowmaker, and he seeks the Window Rune to perfect his craft.

Neclord

Neclord is no ordinary vampire; because his transformation was the result of a rune, he has the power of a vampire without the weaknesses of one. The Empire put Neclord in a position of power, giving him the bodies he needed to create an army of the damned and terrorize the Lorimar region.
