There are Two Hedgehogs Inside of You, and One of Them is Into Nü Metal – Let’s Play Sonic Adventure 2

Hey thanks for checking this LP out, I hope you enjI’LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS!

Sonic the Hedgehog has been arrested by the military unit GUN for a crime he didn’t commit. But who could be behind such a frame job? Metal Sonic is nowhere to be found, but it does seem as though Dr. Eggman has teamed up with some manner of hedgehog to do crimes. What Eggman doesn’t know, though, is that this new partner in crime has connections to his own ancestry. And as it turns out, the Eggman family may have the to world domination just floating around somewhere…

Hot off the heels of Adventure 1 and developed by the US branch of Sonic Team, Sonic Adventure 2 was highly anticipated and is now still fairly-well regarded to this day. Some of the gameplay styles might seem familiar if you’ve played SA1, but Adventure 2 still aims for its own style. SA2 forgoes Adventure Fields, and rather than having six single-character storylines, there are two storylines featuring teams of three characters. All three gameplay styles on one team are equivalent to the three on the other, and as you may have guessed, Big’s fishing gameplay did not make the cut.

As always, please do not spoil anything that hasn’t happened yet. This LP will feature the storyline and stages in (mostly) chronological order, so there’s no need to tiptoe around things that happened on the other team’s story.

Episode List

For some reason, Sonic the Hedgehog has been arrested. But being the free spirit he is, and since he was framed anyway, he’s not going to sit around waiting to be put in prison. So what happened to necessitate Sonic needing to escape from the city? Well, it probably won’t surprise you to hear that Dr. Eggman is at fault for it.

Dr. Eggman has met the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow, who has promised to grant a wish of world domination after meeting on the space colony ARK. While the two of them move to meet in the agreed upon location, it seems another force is at work. And being a “treasure hunter,” she’s attracted the ire of everyone’s favorite magical emerald holder, Knuckles the Echidna.

Eggman’s plans have piqued Rouge’s interest, but it seems the treasure hunter isn’t exactly wanted in his secret base. If she wants to join the bad guy crew, she’ll need to put her search skills to use. Meanwhile, Eggman himself still needs to make contact with Shadow on the ARK.

To fire the Eclipse Cannon, Eggman will need an incredible amount of power. And what better way to get that power than collecting Chaos Emeralds? Everyone’s favorite maniacal scientist has more than enough experience collecting those things, but this time there are three in the hands of the military. This time around, though, he has a team of two anthropomorphic animals to help him heist the powerful gems.

Things have gone well on Team Sonic’s end, and very poorly on Rouge’s. Prison Island has only a few minutes left before it’s blown to smithereens, but Rouge is stuck in a locked room with three whole Chaos Emeralds. While Sonic evades the military, Shadow must grapple with his track record of saving people.

Eggman and his crew have succeeded in taking the three Chaos Emeralds from Prison Island, and have the ability to fire the Eclipse Cannon. And since he has the ability to use it, why would he not aim as high as possible to establish his empire?

Although Sonic is taking out distracting the cops, the rest of the crew need to figure out how to reach Eggman. And the best way to do that is, obviously, to track down the President of the United States to intercept a message being sent by the doctor himself. Knuckles is also here now.

Tails has tracked down Eggman’s secret base. Unfortunately, nobody in the group is as good at espionage as Rouge is, so they’ll be fighting their way through his front door. And considering Shadow’s been tailing their movements, Dark team hasn’t been caught flat-footed.

Sonic and his friends have landed on the ARK, where they move to stop the Eclipse Cannon. Well, most of them do. With six of the Master Emerald shards lost, Knuckles has split off to work on that instead. And with Rouge working security, it seems the treasure hunters are bound to meet again, this time with the fate of the Master Emerald determined by the victor.

The treasure hunters’ storyline has pretty much wrapped up, so now it’s time to catch on the actually important part of this trip, stopping the Eclipse Cannon! Tails moves off to destroy the station’s main engine while Sonic will use the fake emerald to overload the weapon itself. One problem: Eggman has already figured out that Sonic’s crew have a fake emerald, and he’s not going to let them stop his plans here.

The end is nearing; Although Tails managed to defeat Eggman, the scientist has snuck away with the Chaos Emerald in hand. In less than half an hour, the Eclipse Cannon will be fired. All that’s left is for Shadow to do away with whoever’s trying to stop the cannon from firing. But can he succeed with the sudden existential crisis Rouge has left him with?

Sonic, just having teleported out of death in the nick of time, has successfully stopped the Eclipse Cannon from firing. That doesn’t bode well for Eggman, who managed to sneak off with the final Chaos Emerald he needed. But something else happened when Eggman inserted the final gem into the station’s interface. An old message from an old relative plays, and now the ARK is hurdling towards the Earth. If anyone wants to stop the planet’s destruction, then the only option is to work together.

The Ark’s core has been exposed, and now Sonic and Knuckles have their opening to stop the station’s descent. But one final obstacle remains to stop intruders from ending Gerald Robotnik’s posthumous rampage. Meanwhile, Amy finally manages to do something in the story just in the nick of time, and it could be the thing everyone needs to save the Earth.

SA2’s story mode goes a mile a minute, but there’s quite a bit of stuff outside of it to look out. Most of it is mission mode, which we’re only touching on because I don’t want to go mad!

And with this, Sonic Adventure to comes to an end. @moderators , this thread can be put in Completed LPs now.
